This panel discussion brings together the founders of The Polyglot, Laberinto Press, Hungry Zine and Living Hyphen to discuss the need for and the challenges of publishing multicultural, multilingual, and hyphenated authors in the ever-evolving landscape of Canadian publishing. This panel will be moderated by translator and Edmonton’s 11th Poet Laureate, Medgine Mathurin.

Featuring Renée Williams (Executive Director, Edmonton Arts Council) as moderator and local Black artists Aliya Logun, Medgine, and Shaihiem Small, the panel will discuss the topic of representation in the arts. The night will begin with a short performance and will end with a Q&A session to learn even more about these amazing artists.

5 Artists 1 Love presents Soul In The City
“Soul In The City" is a love letter to Edmonton, a city that has blossomed into a mosaic of cultures, rooted and grounded in the rich history of the African diaspora. Evolving from its early days as an opportunity for Black settlers in the 1920s, Edmonton now proudly stands as one of Western Canada's most populous city for Black inhabitants.
Join us on February 1, 2025, with the phenomenal Melafrique as our house band and other amazing local performers when we reveal just what we mean when we say, " Soul In The City".

Love to write? Want to meet others with the same passion? Interested in tips from a pro?
If you're between the ages of 12-15, join us for a day of writing workshops! The day will start with a workshop in the Makerspace where you'll create your own notebook before attending a session with EPL's Writer in Residence, Premee Mohamed. The day will also include a workshop on how to write for stop motion video with Demmi Dupri and writing poetry with Medgine Mathurin.
This event will run from 10am-4:30pm. Lunch and a snack will be provided.
Registration is required. EPL staff will be following up with registrants before the event with additional information.
The CLC and LitFest Host Marjorie Beaucage: A Reading + Conversation and Water Walk
Join the CLC (the Centre for Literatures in Canada) and LitFest on Friday, October 18, for a Reading and Conversation, and a Water Walk, with Two-Spirit Métis artist and waterwalker Marjorie Beaucage!
Reading + Conversation
At noon, Marjorie will read from her bilingual (English and French Michif) poetic memoir leave some for the birds -- movements for justice, followed by a conversation with the audience hosted by spoken word poet Medgine.
There will be refreshments and a book signing at this event.

The first half of the concert features classical music composed by Joseph Bologne de Saint-George, dit ‘Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ (c. 1747-1799,) performed by Jean-Marc Bétrix, Guillaume Tardif, Yue Deng & Danielle Greene, violins; Ethan Filner, viola; and Rafael Hoekman, cello.
Followed in the second half with Music, Dance, and Poetry from artists of the Caribbean and African diaspora. With Eric Awuah, Dance and Percussion; Stennie Noel, Percussion; Danielle George, Steel Pan; Noreta Lewis-Prince, Voice and Piano; Cherelle George, Dance; and Keston Gray, Dance.

An event to raise awareness on racial disparities across donor pools (blood, stem cell, organs & tissues), how they impact Black peoples in particular, and work that is needed to address these disparities in partnership with Black people and communities.
